Mother's Day Makeover

Posted by

She deserves appreciation year round, but Mother's Day is definitely the time to to pay her back -- if only slightly -- for all of those years of love, encouragement, and support.

Instead of the usual flowers or perfume, why not give her a lasting gift...a simple, chic decorative accent that she can enjoy every day.

Here are some of my favorite ideas for a small but memorable Mother's Day makeover...

Park Avenue Flowers

Posted by

Park Avenue flowers are an eagerly anticipated harbinger of spring in New York City. Every March, hundreds of tulips, daffodils, and other annual beauties rise from the busy thoroughfare. Blossoming trees line the sidewalks and fill the air with a sweet and fresh scent.

This year, a Brooklyn-based artist heightened the spectacle of Park Avenue with his installation entitled, "The Roses." Will Ryman constructed, by hand, 38 colossal rose blooms and "planted" them on a 10-block stretch of Park Avenue.

The roses, ranging in height from three to 25 feet, are a fanciful tribute to the larger than life nature of New York City.

The other day, I took an afternoon stroll down Park Avenue to admire the sculptures and lush floral displays.

Visiting the Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Gardens

Posted by

Flowers provide me with seemingly endless inspiration, so it should come as no surprise that I couldn't resist the allure of thousands of beautiful orchids.

The New York Botanical Garden has their 9th annual Orchid Show exhibition in full swing, and it couldn't be more astounding.

The theme of the show this year is "On Broadway," and features the creative work of Tony award winning set designer Scott Pask, and entertainment designer Drew Hodges. The individual spaces in the Orchid show are modeled after iconic Broadway theatres, including the Walter Kerr Theatre and the New Amsterdam Theatre.

I stopped by the show last week and couldn't get enough of the beautiful floral spectacle.
