Emma Tennant at Chatsworth

Chatsworth House

Lady Emma Tennant, British novelist, editor, and sister of the Duke of Devoshire, is exhibiting her paintings at Chatsworth House, the Duke's home. She paints her favorite flowers, fruits and vegetables from the Chatsworth Garden in watercolors as the plants change over the course of a year.

On view from 24 March until 30 June 2013, the exhibition showcases some 80 works which are richly colored and botanically accurate. Emma Tennant has been an avid painter since childhood. What I find earnestly charming about her work is her use of sketching while painting. A delicately drawn image supports her pops of color, highlighting elements of the pictured flowers.

If you are visiting the UK before June 30th, I highly recommend visiting the historic home and taking in her work.
