I wanted to report back about my recent meal at Il Buco Alimentari e Vineria, which combines a market with a restaurant and wine bar. (It's showed up on almost every top 10 list of best places to eat in 2013). I ate risotto and turkey, and I indulged in the foie gras -- everything, as usual, was delicious and perfectly prepared. If you're in a hurry, stop into the market part to pick up savory meats and cheeses. Or stay awhile and feast on the house-cured meats and freshly-baked bread downstairs. It's a great way to pick up your spirits and recharge after a day of shopping in Soho.

For special occasions, Il Buco is one of my favorite go-to restaurants in Manhattan. Martha and I dined there recently and, although it's located at Bond Street and Lafayette (smack dab in the heart of downtown), we felt like we had taken a small excursion to Italy.
