I just got my Christmas tree this year, and it reminded me that tree shopping should be like any other shopping -- you have to do your research and know the marketplace before you purchase. In case you're still in the market for yours, here's a quick tutorial.

Now that the tree is home, my next step is deciding on a color palette. I get this question a lot and there really is no palette I particularly like or dislike: I think silver and gold are always beautiful and I equate them to a beige sofa - neutral and safe. The advantage to having a metallic palette like this one is the fact that it takes you straight through new year's. But if you want to go bolder, deep purples are unexpected and gorgeous.
