This week's guest was Nathan Turner, creator of the eponymous home goods store that Angelenos love. His beautiful parties and designs have been featured in many national publications. Take a peek into his new book "Nathan Turner's American Style: Classic Design & Effortless Entertaining."

What is your dream decorating project?

I would go back to my childhood and redecorate my mom’s badly '80s-decorated house.

Who or what always inspires you?

What destinations alway reboot your creativity?

I love Istanbul, Mexico City, and Palermo in Sicily because there are so many different cultures that make them interesting -- and there's really great food.

What’s your go-to work uniform?

Jeans, desert boots, blue shirt, and a knit tie.

What’s your favorite color to decorate with right now?

I’m a big fan of blue of all shades. I’ve never met a blue I didn’t like. I use it as a neutral ... it’s appealing to everyone.

What was the last great book you read?

"Sudden Rain" by Maritta Wolff.  It took place in the early '70s in Southern California and it created visuals in my head that were fantastic.

What's your secret design resource?

I like to scour Chinatown, Little India, and Korea town in LA to find hidden gems.

Who are your must-follow Pinners?

Minnie Mortimer Gaghan, Ross Cassidy

  • Just by chance yesterday I decided to see if I could sign up on Sirius for a free trial and I succeeded. I first listened to 40 minutes of Ask Martha and then your show came on. I had no idea who Nathan Turner was, (sorry Nathan and thanks for replying to my tweet) and I had never listened to your show before so I hung around. What a fun guy you are and the same about Nathan and of course you both had great ideas to share. I checked out his website and loved his design ideas and I just might get his new book although I don't do much decorating anymore. After reading what he said about redecorating his mother's 80s house, I thought maybe I should attempt a few things. Our house was built in '78 and is in desperate need of redecorating. Anyway, I enjoyed your party ideas, the pizza and use of silver trays especially and it would be so fine if one of the Kardashians came to your party, and maybe even Andy Cohen. I think they'd both have a great time!
