Earlier this year, I took a trip with Martha and some of my colleagues to visit the Ambiente Trade Show in Tokyo, Japan. Ambiente is the leading trade fair for the Japanese high-end interior market, which includes housewares, textiles and furniture. Both today and tomorrow, I would like to share some snapshots from the trip with you. Here is part one of our journey!

When I travel, I prefer bring my own provisions for the plane. Here is lunch from my favorite spot—Sant Ambroeus in the West Village.

Martha, Hannah Milman--Crafts Editorial Director, and Lucinda Scala Quinn--Food & Entertaining Editorial Director, having lunch.

The perfect way to round out a beautiful meal—a cookie plate. Yum!
Welcome to Japan!

Meet our driver, Yoshi.

Here, Martha and I are having breakfast. Notice that there's no orange juice—that's Kirin Beer. Breakfast of champions!
Check back tomorrow to see photos of Martha and me at Tsukiji Fish Market in central Tokyo.
