In addition to home decor, bag, accessories, fabric and woman's apparel, Marimekko also offers colorful shirts, ties and accessories for men. The irregular stripes on this Paavo tie are fun.

Marimekko is a Finnish company that launched in the early 1950s by Armi Ratia and her husband, Viljo.  It was shortly after World War II, and consumers were longing for color and fresh ideas. The name Marimekko is actually made up of  two words. Mari, a girl's name, but also the letters of Armi's name rearranged, and mekko, the Finish word for dress.  Marimekko is not about trendy fashion but rather about creating timeless, lasting products that are fashionable.
