More Springtime Arrangements

Posted by

With the recent warm weather, blue skies, and lasting sunshine, it’s clear that spring is here to stay.  Right now, a trip to the flower market is as good as it gets. I love bringing a little springtime inside with arrangements that make the most of what's in season.  Primroses, lilies, muscari, pansies and tulips are everywhere.  I created these spring inspired centerpieces for April issue of Martha Stewart Living.

I love the idea of using blue in a floral centerpiece, especially muscari for spring. It's unexpected and looks beautiful and modern. I used chic silver appetizer bowls as containers and grouped them in a tray. Naturally, I filled the tray with foil covered candy.

A small amount of pea gravel in the bottom of the vessel allows for drainage. Ribbon tied loosely around the stems keeps them together and upright.

I bought these wicker baskets from Jamali Floral & Garden Supplies (jamaligarden.com) and painted them green. I chose the baskets to play off the china pattern.

The small scale of both pansies and muscari make them ideal for table centerpieces. Guests have unobstructed views of one another, which is key at a sit-down gathering.

If you make an arrangement in a basket, make sure to line it. Again, fill the liner with pea gravel for drainage then add in the flowers. Fill the baskets so the arrangements look full but not crowded, then cover with moss.
