If your invitation to the 83rd Academy Awards somehow got lost in the mail (like mine), I have a great way to celebrate the amazing films that will be honored on Sunday, February 27 like Black Swan, The King's Speech, The Fighter, The Kids Are All Right, The Social Network, True Grit, and 127 Hours.
Why not host a glamorous event in your own home? Take inspiration from the statute itself and decorate with gleaming gold -- not to mention plenty of stars.
1 A constellation of 3-D stars becomes a floating centerpiece with the help of fishing wire and a lot of glitter. (Martha Stewart Weddings)
2 Sprinkle glitter over paper stars and tape them down the aisle for a radiant runner. (Martha Stewart Weddings)
3 We put the five-pointed wonder on display wherever we could -- like on this chair. Hanging from it on a golden cord is a dressed-up paper star; we made it by spraying the star with glue, then shaking glitter over it. (Martha Stewart Weddings)
5 Set the table with simple pieces -- a peachy-pink tablecloth, glass dinnerware, off-white napkins -- to temper the bolder elements, like the mercury-glass candleholders and this gold-star napkin holder. (Martha Stewart Weddings)
6 Standing tall over this dessert bar is a golden cake covered in fondant and brushed with luster dust. (Martha Stewart Weddings)
7 One would htink that meringues can't be improved upon, but dip them in a mix of luster dust and orange extract, and you'll think differently. (Martha Stewart Weddings)
8 Life is a bowl of... marzipan cherries; we covered dried sour cherries in marzipan and luster dust, then added faux leaves for a touch of gold. (Martha Stewart Weddings)
9 New York-based Japanese bakery kyotofu gave us their recipe for these vanilla and yuzu (Asian lime) cupcakes; we finished the frosting with a sprinkling of silver dust. (Martha Stewart Weddings)
10 Introducing our starlight royal -- a delicious concoction of gin, lime juice, and champagne topped off with a splash of grenadine for a pink glow; a halved hard-boiled egg, de-yolked and filled with caviar, complements the drink nicely. (Martha Stewart Weddings)
11 Brushed with edible luster dust, these amazing multifaceted lustrous chocolate nuggets are almost too beautiful to bite into. (Martha Stewart Weddings)
12 All that's needed to turn these elegant white-chocolate zabaglione pyramid truffles into a wedding-worthy dessert is a whimsical topper of edible gold leaf on each one; display them together on a tall cake stand for a dramatic presentation. (Martha Stewart Weddings)
13 Chewy Turkish Delights coated with powdered sugar come out of the box ready to be served -- no assembly required. (Martha Stewart Weddings)
14 Dress these lovely pearlized macaroons with edible gold leaf for an unexpected embellishment. (Martha Stewart Weddings)
If you are looking to add a little shimmer to your Oscar event (or any party), I found some great pieces to make your space worthy of any glitterati.

4 A 70s Gold Trolly to serve desserts on; or set-up a mini cocktail bar on the top. (merchantarchive.com)
Lastly, toast all the nominees with these cocktail and hors d'oeuvres...

Wow, what a great round up of recipes! And, yes my invitation for the Oscars (along with the royal wedding) appear to be lost in the mail!
