This cake takes about about 20 packs of oreos-and a steady hand:

  1. Begin stacking
  2. Use a circular cake stand or platter and begin with your first layer of oreos to cover the whole platter/cakestand
  3. When you get to the next layer place the cookies so that they cover the seam of the cookies below (the way you would lay bricks)
  4. 7 layers later-begin your 8th layer (but start one cookie in) and build 6 layers up
  5. On the 6th stacked layer, start one cookie in and continue to stack... Our cake is 19 layers, but you can make as big or as little as you like!
  6. For a festive touch we added a sparkler to the top
  7. Last but not least: Let Them Eat Cake!

Tulip arrangement how-to:

For that bowl we used about 300 stems of French Tulips:

  1. Start by laying them down, one by one on their side and lining the heads up.
  2. Hold them down with one hand while using clippers and cutting the stems to make them all an even length (about twice the height of the bowl).
  3. Gather the bundle and place in bowl.
  4. Stack about 170 – 200 (as much as you can gather in your arms and drop in the bowl).
  5. Lastly, fill in holes with remaining tulips by sticking them in straight as the other tulips have created a diagonal grid (a built in flower frog).

  • Hi Kevin, today got the Martha Stewart Living magazine, amazing apt and photos. Love love it! The white french tulips are gorgeous.
    God bless you new home.
    Best Regards

  • Hi Kevin!
I had the delight of meeting you, and Martha last July in the Paris airport. What a treat! The recent remodel of your apartment is absolutely fabulous- even down to the Danish towel hooks in your bathroom. We currently bought a 112 year old house, and will be starting a remodel soon as well. If you have any advice, please let me know!
You both last summer had so kindly asked me what was my favorite thing about MSL. I was so excited to meet you both, I did not answer the question how I truly would have liked. I always loooove the Thanksgiving issue. Any open invitations to turkey day (just a little dream of mine!)?!

Take care, and wishing you all the best,

    Karin :)

  • Genius on that Oreo cake. Love the tulips as well.

  • The Oreo cake is a showstopper! I am trying it out this afternoon for my daughter's 16th birthday party in Southampton UK. Kevin's apartment is a dream. You could lock me in there and throw the keys away! I welcome more contemporary features like this, in the magazine and website.

    All the best.

  • I agree with Marion. It's nice to see some contemporary interiors included. Love what we could see of Kevin's home. Also, Alexis' apartment is gorgeous. Can't wait to see the spread in Martha's magazine when and if it happens. I do plan to do the Oreo cake.
