Color Inspiration: Flower Market
Posted by Kevin Sharkey
Bearded Iris was my favorite flower when I was a kid.
Lots of Lisianthus.
Clamatis.
I love this beautiful blue.
The burgundy scabiosa and blue cornflower are happy mates.
Sweet peas, lavender, wood hyacinth.
The aroma of the sweet peas was beyond sweet.
Can you believe lavender at this time of the year!
I love this shocking chartreuse.
These leaves look like green and white marble.
Such visual texture.
The green colored eiderdown.
Gerber's always make me smile.
Quite a batch of hyacinth.
The coral and peach sweet peas combined with purple anemones create a floral rendition of a Rothko painting.
More Rothko.
The saddest sign you can ever see on a bucket of flowers that you want.
Gerbers for miles.
These tight buds of peonies look to me like confetti that has collected on the shelves.
This fuchsia/chartreuse combo is hard to beat.
The grand finale - a mammoth oriental poppy - spectacular!

I spent the morning at the flower market on 28th street the other day...a favorite haunt. It was all about chartreuse, blue, purple and green for me that morning. I was completely besotted with the selection at Dutch Flowers and couldn't think of anything else until I got to G. Page, where I did an about face and fell head over heels in love with coral, fuchsia, red, peach and yellow. These types of visits always inspire ideas with colors, textures and fragrances. Follow along with me.

Kevin, I loved looking at all the beautiful pictures of the flowers today. I live in West Texas and we are in the middle of a really bad drought at this time. Our lakes that provide our precious water supply are drying up before our eyes. We cannot water our yards but one time a week for 2hrs only with a hand held water hose. Very depressing, so thank you for a little peek of color. (love your radio show) We hope it rains soon down here.
