One of my favorite pastimes is browsing through the online antique marketplace, 1st Dibs. I always encounter several moments of inspiration just from checking out their beautiful and comprehensive inventory -- I have also been known to buy an item (or two).
1 Here's a lattice back settee from Stephen Miller Seigel that I absolutely love. It is such a strong, graphic piece that would go well with the modern style of my apartment.
2 This is the antique lattice back chair that he based his new chairs and benches on. Behind it is a Danish Academic Nude Study by artist Carl B Moller.
3 Stephen Miller Seigel creates custom-made pillows, and he always has a lovely selection in-store.
4 I'm not sure if I would be able to fit these gold lamps into my decor, but they are certainly gorgeous.
One particular vendor on their site that I've bookmarked is Stephen Miller Siegel, an architecture and design firm on Manhattan's Upper East Side. (www.stephenmillersiegelarchitects.1stdibs.com). They have antiques, vintage pieces and originals that range from a Mies bench to a lattice back settee and chair. Also, he can create a wide range of custom pillows (a secret must-have source). I took a minute to peruse their site again and found some items that would look great in my apartment - take a look:
1 I love the classic shape of this studded club chair - perfect for the library. Not sure if I would keep the leather upholstery, however.
2 This striped banquette is so neat and classic - and I adore the orange stripe.
3 How comfortable does this leather couch look? I can imagine myself lounging in it now.
4 A three tier ebonized bookcase would look great in my dining area - but I may go with a console instead.
5 This glass tubular floor lamp would look great in my library, though I might opt for a different lampshade.
6 I always love pairs, which is why I fell in love with these milk glass lamps. I would put them on either side of my sofa.
7 This desk looks like it was build using the same materials as my building - glass and metal.
8 Nesting tables are so useful and functional for small spaces, such as apartments. Pull them all out for entertaining, then push them back together to save space.
9 I've been looking for sconces to use in my hallways and bedroom - this hammered bronze sconce is definitely on my radar now.
10 This Cubed Metal and Glass ceiling fixture comes in polished nickel, satin nickel, polished brass, and unlacquered brass. I think I would go for a polished nickel.
