I am so inspired by the restaurant Matsalen, designed by British interior designer Ilse Crawford, at the Grand Hotel Stockholm in Sweden. It is run by Mathias Dahlgren, a wonderful chef who is reinventing classic Swedish cuisine.
If you can get there, go! But if not, there is something to be learned from the beauty and serenity of the space they’ve created. There are gorgeous velvet chesterfield sofas, buttery leather chairs, and a mix of clean-lined brass lights (the chandelier is by Carlos Scarpa). The paneled walls are the perfect shade of pale khaki and the open kitchen is to die for. And lets not forget the parquet floor....This makes me feel so much more confident about the choices I have made in my apartment so far. I love that they chose to punctuate the monotone environment with a bright color. It is also important to notice that the tufting and the traditional shape of the sofa still allow it to be modern and I am thinking could fit quite nicely in a minimalist space-this is giving me a lot to think about......
