My favorite way to spend a weekend, no matter what time of year, is to go to Skylands - my favorite of all of Martha's homes, located on Mount Desert Island off the coast of Maine. It provides endless inspiration, lots of fresh air, and delicious food. It feels like home to me. I hope you have a great weekend, as I know I will!

  • Kevin;

    Thank you for sharing the beautiful pictures. There is absolutely nothing more tranquil than a quite spot by the ocean.

  • something about the water ..and the endless feeling that it gives...encourages fresh thoughts and a fresh approach to everything in life..it calms and it clears the mind and soul...the maine air helps too... :)

  • just wondering where you purchased those lobster rolls?

  • Mr Sharkey, Hope this finds you with a great weekend. I enjoy watching you on the Martha Stewart show and I can tell you are a great listener to your client's ideas and then you spin your stunning work. Keep listening. Best Regards, Gail Yoder

  • Hi Kevin,

    I'm the creator of Martha Moments blog. I just got the September issue in the mail and thought I'd check out your new blog. I can't wait to see how your new apartment comes together! So looking forward to seeing the progress.

  • Dear Kevin, so glad to see you now have a blog. Real Martha fans know that it is a team effort to create the Living world we all love and we know and admire your work. only problem is between Martha, the Craft Department, Everyday food Darcy and now you - how am I ever going to get any work done! I spend all my time reading the blogs!

  • Hello Kevin Sharkey - It's very refreshing to see your new blog. I have always enjoyed learning from Martha Stewart books and TV segments. I tune in because of pieces on serious gardening, home restoration, and design techniques. I use MS Old House New House to this day for inspiration! With Margaret Roach leaving followed by all the pieces on pets, weddings, and crafts, I was beginning to look elsewhere for ideas. Thanks for bringing back the "old" Martha Stewart!! I look forward to reading your blog for inspiration. PS: The source pages in MS Living magazine were loaded with information, like an encyclopedia! Now it's really paired down with hardly anything listed. Maybe you can bring that back as well...

  • ok, i have never replied to one blog so many times, i feel like i'm a stalker but this is so cool. check out his fav sites. awesome. you won't regret doing this. i had a few minutes and wanted to put off cleaning, so here i am thinking they would be silly sites like so many are - but they are not. very informative but very visual. if you are an aesthetic snob like most of us are, click on them. oh, we remodeled our home but had little money for the other stuff after our twins were born, like moulding and furniture, so as i save, i am getting tons of ideas with this blog and the sites he recommended. never was a kevin fan, sorry, but damn, now i am. nice work.

  • I'm excited about your blog--i've always found your style to be impeccable. It will be fun to hear from you what you're thought processes are in designing your place,,,what can be expected from quality tradespeople, etc. More, more, more,,,, i love reading about it all. Thanks Kevin.

  • We can't wait to get to Maine. We have met a lovely girl, Danielle, whose parents live in Houlton, Maine. Danielle and my daughter met in Japan whilst working and have become partners - yep that's right an all girl couple. We love them both and Danielle is always telling us about growing up in Maine and how beautiful it is.

  • Lucky Lucky you to have a job that allows you to be around such great creative energy and to be an inspiration to others. Spending time at Martha's homes must be quite something not many people have such an innate sense of style and the
    ability to manifest it into such all encompassing properties, everything she and MSL does is beautiful in that understated American way. Thomas O'Brien, Armani,
    Ralph Lauren, the late Bill Blass, Michael S Smith, Vicente Wolf, Carolyn Roehm,
    Waterworks NANZ & P E Guerin, The Barefoot Contessa & Tyler Florence all of you have an amazing influence and are a pleasure to watch ! I have every issue of MSL
    and will continue to be inspired by all the future issues, I can't wait !!!

  • Love your pictures of Maine. My first time on your site, though I have read MSL since 91. We sail out of Rockland, Camden and nothing can compare to the whole ambience and that includes Florida where we live.
